Officers have taken nearly £1m of cannabis off the streets of Nottinghamshire after a drugs bust across several districts in recent weeks.
Nottinghamshire Police working in the force’s serious and organised crime unit raided a number of addresses in Sneinton, Radford, Sherwood and Edwalton, where the class B drugs were discovered.
The raids all took place during the last month, during the current Coronavirus lock down period.
The haul is worth at least £700,000 in street value, with potential more money may have been made before the operation was shut down.
Nottinghamshire Police officers executed a drugs warrant on Friday 3 April 2020 on Trent Boulevard and made five arrests.
Five men have been charged with drug offences after officers searched their property and seized a large quantity of cannabis which has an estimated value in the excess of £110,000.
Supt Mike Allen said: “This is a significant operation which has led to a huge amount of drugs being seized and stopped from being sold across Nottinghamshire.
“Work is still on going to investigate the operation but we are very pleased with this outcome.
“Serious and organised crime will not be tolerated in any form here in Nottinghamshire. I hope this sends out a clear message to anyone else that may be operating in this way that we will investigate and we will stop this kind of operation.
“Just because the country is in lock down does not mean we are taking our eye off the ball and those intent on breaking the law need to remember that. This lockdown does not mean open season for criminals.
“The force’s statistics for drug-related offences have remained consistent over the last few months, thanks to the public’s support in reporting suspicious activity and good policing work to follow up on all of the information available to us.
“We are still as committed as ever to taking drugs off our streets and my message to anyone involved in the supply of illegal drugs is clear: we’re coming for you.”
Police also seized six vehicles, jewellery, and cash found at two of the addresses raided, all of which come to the value of £7,000.
Supt Allen added the funds from the sale of cannabis growing operations can reach significant amounts of money and drug trafficking criminality in general has a propensity to lead to other serious crimes such as violence with injury, modern slavery and human trafficking.
Four people have now been charged with the production of cannabis while five people have been charged with conspiracy to supply.
