A serious collision has caused the closure of the A46.
6 pm road has reopened

The A46 in Leicestershire remains closed southbound between the A6 (Wanlip) and A5630 (Anstey), due to a serious collision involving 3 cars and a lorry that was reported at 18:00 on the 17/02/26.

The northbound carriageway was reopened at approx.05:00am.
Recovery and clear up works are now complete. Resurfacing of the carriageway is now underway for a 300 metre spillage of diesel and hydraulic fluid following the collision.
The carriageway will remain closed throughout the afternoon, with no times for reopening of the road due to the serious nature of the Incident.
Diversion Route:
Southbound traffic is advised to follow the solid diamond diversion symbol on road signs:
- From A46 Wanlip Junction, take the first exit for the A6 south into Leicester.
- At the A563 Leicester Ring Road roundabout, take the A563 west and follow for 3km heading straight over the three roundabouts on the route.
- At the roundabout with the A5630, head north-west on the A5630 until it rejoins the A46 at the Anstey Junction.

The A46 in Leicestershire remains closed southbound between the A6 (Wanlip) and A5630 (Anstey), due to a serious collision involving 3 cars and a lorry that was reported at 18:00 on the 17/02/26.
The northbound carriageway was reopened at approx.05:00am.
Leicestershire police have completed their investigation work at approx. 05:55am with recovery of the vehicles involved now underway.
Specialist contractors are also on scene to inspect the carriageway due to a large fluid spillage affecting all of the lanes.
The southbound carriageway will remain closed throughout the morning, with no times for reopening of the road due to the serious nature of the Incident.

The A46 in Leicestershire is closed in both directions between A5630 (Anstey) and A6 (Wanlip), due to a serious collision involving a car and lorry.
The incident occurred approx. 18:00 this evening.
All emergency services are in attendance.
This incident is expected to be protracted and in place for a considerable time.
Diversion Routes:
Northbound traffic is advised to follow the solid triangle diversion symbol on road signs:
- From A46/A5630 Anstey Junction, take the third exit onto the A5630 south-east Anstey Lane into Leicester passing through the Bennion Road Roundabout to the A5630/A563 Roundabout.
- At the A5630/A563 roundabout take the A563 east onto Krefeld Way and continue for 3km passing straight over the three roundabouts at Orwell Drive/Strasbourg Drive, Beaumont Lees Lane and Thurcaston Road/Halifax Drive to the A563/A6 Redhill Circle Interchange.
- At the Interchange take the first exit(left) onto the A6 north and continue to the A6/A46 Wanlip Junction.
- Then rejoin the A46 northbound
