The A46 in Leicestershire remains closed southbound between the A6006 (Melton Mowbray) and the A607 (Syston) following a serious collision which occurred in the early hours of this morning.

Emergency services have been on scene since shortly after 1am, with Leicestershire Police leading a detailed collision investigation supported by Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service and other responders.

The closure is essential to allow forensic examination and evidence gathering to take place safely, alongside recovery operations. These activities require a full carriageway closure and cannot be completed with traffic running alongside.

The road has been closed since 01:46 and current estimates confirm it will remain shut until at least 6pm.

At present there are no delays approaching the closure or along the signed diversion route, and strategic variable message signs are in place to advise drivers.
