All lanes are closed on the M1 southbound between J28 (Mansfield) and J26 (Nottingham) following a large fire.
7:54 pm: Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service: ‘We’ve currently got 7 appliances, a combination of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service resources, working very hard to tackle a fire in open in the Bulwell area currently.
‘This fire is sending a large amount of smoke onto the M1 and has caused some traffic disruption around Junction 26 southbound.
‘Please bear with us whilst we work quickly to deal with this fire and allow our Highways Colleagues to fully open up the road.
‘Please plan journeys accordingly and consider there is a lot of traffic disruption in the area.
‘Also, we’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, please avoid the area and do not fly drones over this emergency incident, as you may disrupt our operations.’
7:39 pm: The M1 has reopened southbound between J28 (Mansfield) and J26 (Nottingham) following a large fire, however lanes 1 and 2 (of 4) remain closed
Fire services remain on scene for investigation works and dampening down.
There are delays of up to 20 minutes on approach.

The M1 in Nottinghamshire is closed southbound between J28 (Alfreton) and J26 (Nottingham) due to a fire in a field adjacent to the motorway.
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service are working to extinguish the fire. National Highways Traffic Officers are providing assistance with traffic management on scene.
Diversion Route
Diverted traffic is advised to follow the hollow square diversion symbol:
- Exit the M1 southbound at J28
- Join the A38 westbound and continue for just under 6 miles towards Ripley
- At the A610 Hartshay Interchange at Ripley, turn left and take the A610
- Continue south-easterly around Ripley, through Codnor and continue onward to then re-join the M1 at J26
