Urgent warning blue-green algae found in Dog Pond at Cotgrave Country Park

A warning has been issued after potentially harmful levels of blue-green algae were detected in the Dog Pond at Cotgrave Country Park.

Recent water sampling found that levels of blue-green algae, also known as BGA, were above the threshold at which warning signs are required.

High concentrations of the algae can produce toxins which may cause health problems if animals drink the water or if it is accidentally consumed by people.

Visitors are being advised to avoid contact with the water and to wash their hands if contact does occur.

Owners have also been told not to allow pets into the pond or surrounding affected area while the bloom remains present.

The warning was issued on Friday 17 July and will remain in place until further notice.
