Warning after people illegally enter dangerous car park

The building is in a dangerous condition after partial collapse.

A spokesperson for Mansfield District Council said:

‘We are aware of an incident over the weekend in which individuals unlawfully entered the former B&M building and car park on Walkden Street.

‘Nottinghamshire Police has taken swift action and several people have been arrested on suspicion of burglary.

‘This building remains closed following the collapse of the car park above and the structure continues to pose a serious danger. The building has been secured again and additional police patrols are in place to deter anyone from attempting to enter.

‘We must be clear that entering this building is both unsafe and illegal. Anyone who tries to gain access is putting their life at risk.

‘Council officers and police officers have had to enter the site to check that no one was inside. They do so at significant personal risk due to the unstable nature of the structure.
We ask the public to respect all fencing and warning signs and to keep a safe distance from the building at all times.’
