Water leak leads police to £80,000 cannabis grow in Nottingham property

Patrolling officers uncovered a substantial cannabis grow after spotting water pouring from the roof of a home.

Police became aware of the leak at a property in Hanslope Crescent, Bilborough, Nottingham, at around 5.30pm on Wednesday (7 January).

Officers could hear significant quantities of water gushing from the upper floors and pouring down the walls both outside the property and within.

Due to concerns about anyone being inside the address, as well as neighbouring people, officers gained entry and discovered a grow of around 80 plants in the loft.

Several other rooms had also been converted into growing rooms.

No one was present inside the property, but inquiries are ongoing to trace whoever is responsible for the grow.

Sergeant Emma O’Meara, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“The amount of water pouring from the address was putting neighbouring properties at risk.

“The potential harm posed by the quantity of water and the way the electricity supply had been tampered with was substantial, so the officers involved should be commended for taking positive action.

“The soaking wet, dark, and cold conditions we found inside were also appalling, and yet there was evidence someone had been living there.

“We often find people are forced to live in these types of conditions to tend the grow.
“Teams will now dismantle the growing equipment, and we’d like to hear from anyone in the neighbourhood with information as our investigations continue.”

Anyone who can assist should call police on 101, quoting incident 533 of 7 January 2026, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
