Detectives investigating a confrontation where knives were brandished have released an image of a woman they’d like to speak to.
Officers were called to Weekday Cross in Nottingham city centre around 12.30pm on Wednesday (31 January) following reports of violent disorder.
The incident, which happened outside the Nottingham Contemporary art gallery, saw two groups of people confront each other while wielding knives.
Nobody was hurt during the dispute, with everyone involved then fleeing from the area before police arrived.
Footage of the incident showed a woman appear to try and break up the argument to stop it escalating further, before herself then leaving the scene.
Police have released an image of the unknown woman and would like to speak to her as a matter of urgency as part of their investigation.
Detective Inspector Christopher Berryman, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “The level of violence shown in this incident was completely unacceptable and will have been very alarming to anyone who witnessed it.
“Our investigative teams have been working around the clock to try and identify everyone involved as quickly as possible.
“We want to speak to the woman in this image as a matter of urgency, as we believe she may have crucial information about what happened that could really assist our inquiries.
“Likewise, we would again appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident, or has any other information about it, but hasn’t contacted the police yet, to do so right away.
“We understand how concerning these reports are to residents, so we will continue to provide additional high-visibility patrols of the area to provide some reassurance to the public.
“Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 101 quoting incident 292 of 31 January 2023, or report it anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
