West Bridgford couple celebrate Golden Wedding at care home

Staff at a care home in West Bridgford arranged a celebration to remember to mark a loved-up couple’s milestone moment together.

Tying the knot in October 1975, 87-year-old David and 76-year-old Kath Henderson moved into Trent Bridge care home in March 2025.

Staff at the home were made aware of their 50th wedding anniversary and wanted to do something special to help the couple celebrate and remember their big day.

Knowing that Kath still had the headpiece she wore on her wedding day and David still had his tie, staff delicately arranged the accessories on a table to take the couple back to their wedding day.

Kath and David also shared a bottle of champagne, and lamb tagine, a meal they had chosen to enjoy together to mark the occasion.

The couple, still very much in love, met at a social club for young professionals in Middlesbrough in 1974 and said it was love at first sight. “Our first date was at Hardwick Hall, and we’ve been inseparable ever since,” said Kath.

At the time the couple met, David had two daughters from a previous marriage. The couple have enjoyed many years together as a family, which has extended to two grandsons.

Kath added, “It’s been a big change moving into Trent Bridge earlier this year, but the love and care everyone has shown us, especially for our anniversary has meant the world. We couldn’t have asked for a more thoughtful celebration.”

Care manager at Trent Bridge care home, Luke Staples said, “Making the move was a big change and challenge for Kath and David so we wanted to do something special for them.

“It was such an honour to celebrate this incredible milestone with Kath and David. They are a wonderful couple whose warmth and positivity inspire everyone around them. Our team wanted to make sure their golden anniversary was truly golden — filled with love, joy and cherished memories.”

David added, “While the move was a big decision for both Kath and I, we are deeply grateful for the care and community we’ve found within Trent Bridge. The staff are lovely and we both felt so much warmth and love from them all day.”

When asked what the secret to long-lasting love is, Kath said, “supporting one another through the tough times.”
