An assistant headteacher at a Ruddington primary school has received a national award recognising her work to encourage children to develop a lifelong love of reading.
Sarah Srichan, Assistant Headteacher and English Lead at James Peacock Infant and Nursery School, has been named the winner of the National Experienced Teacher Award for Reading for Pleasure.
The award, presented by The Open University (OU) and the United Kingdom Literacy Association (UKLA), recognises her commitment to promoting reading for enjoyment and helping children develop an interest in books.
Sarah said: “I am absolutely delighted and incredibly proud to receive this national recognition. Reading for pleasure is something I am deeply passionate about, and it is a real honour to have my work celebrated in this way.
“At James Peacock, we believe that teaching children to read is only the beginning. We want every child to discover the joy of reading, have the freedom to make their own choices and develop their own unique identity as a reader.

“I feel incredibly fortunate to work alongside such dedicated colleagues and within a school community that shares this vision. Our children, families and staff are at the heart of creating a culture where reading is valued, celebrated and enjoyed.
“Our ambition is simple: not just to teach children to read, but to inspire them to become readers for life.”
