Glynn and Wendy Roddy have operated The Willow Tree on Rufford Way in West Bridgford since 2016.
The couple have been running the pub since 2016 except for a couple of years when they moved away from the area. When the pub became available again they came back to rejoin the community they love, and made a great success of the venture.
Stonegate Group who own the business announced recently it wants to sell the lease – Glynn and Wendy had first refusal on this, but the cost for 5 years was likely to be nearly £30,000. The couple set up a fundraising page which many local customers supported.
However, now they have decided not to go ahead with plans to buy the lease.
In an update they said:
‘It is with very heavy hearts that, Wendy & I have decided that our future will not lie with The Willow Tree Pub on Rufford Way.
‘Obviously this change will not be immediate, so we look forward to continue to welcome until such time.
‘We have concluded that purchasing the lease is not the path we want to travel down, with our family.
‘There will be a change in ownership soon & we wish them (whoever it may be) all the best and hope they continue to be blessed with the support of this wonderful community, that we have had the honour of serving food & drink to, on & off for over 8yrs.
‘Thank you for all your support & best wishes to everyone for the future.’
They have arranged to refund high-value donations and details about this on on the pub’s Facebook page.
