West Bridgford: Youths on motorbike try to hold up car on Melton Road and chase cyclist into gym on Wilford Lane

Two suspects were arrested after a number of robberies and attempted robberies were reported in Nottingham.

Four incidents involving masked youths on a motorbike were reported between 3pm and 7pm on Thursday (11 April).

A driver reported a motorbike with three youths on it pulling up alongside her car in Melton Road, West Bridgford, with the middle person attempting to open the back passenger door handle whilst making demands for cash. The driver managed to drive away and was not pursued by the motorbike.

A short time later, a police officer and PCSO on patrol in Clifton were flagged down by a member of the public, who reported three young males on a motorbike attempting to steal another man’s motorbike. The officers spoke to the victim who confirmed the youths had tried to kick him off his motorbike but had not succeeded.

The third incident was reported shortly before 6.20pm. A 19-year-old reported having his headphones and mobile phone stolen after being threatened by three youths on a motorbike near Queens Walk tram stop. He said one of the youths brandished a machete and that he was made to go to his home address to fetch cash – where one of youths smashed a downstairs and upstairs window.

At 7pm, a cyclist reported having his bike stolen after being chased into a gym in Wilford Lane, West Bridgford.

Two male suspects, aged 16 and 18, were arrested shortly after the fourth incident on suspicion of robbery. They were detained in The Meadows area and are being questioned in relation to all four incidents.

Inquiries to trace a third suspect are ongoing.

Detective Inspector Lisa Jones, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“This was a frightening ordeal for each victim and we are doing everything possible to ensure those responsible are held accountable.

“Our inquiries remain ongoing, and we are urging anyone who saw what happened or who may have recorded CCTV or dashcam footage relating to these incidents to please get in contact with us if they haven’t already done so.

“I want to reassure people that the force takes all reports of robbery and knife crime very seriously and will continue to work hard to keep people safe and drive down violence in our communities as well as taking robust action against those believed to be involved in these type of crimes.”
