£1 million cannabis grow discovered in a Nottingham property on Christmas Day

Police found a large cannabis grow after responding to a 999 call in the early hours of Christmas Day.

Officers were called to Glapton Lane, Clifton, after three men were seen acting suspiciously near an address, with one holding a crowbar.

The 999 caller lost sight of the men but heard banging moments later.

When a police car arrived minutes later, the suspects ran off. Officers gave chase and three men – aged 25, 31 and 36 – were detained a short time later.

They were each arrested on suspicion of burglary and going equipped for burglary after a cannabis grow of approximately 1,000 plants was located at a nearby property, which appeared to have been broken into.

The three suspects were taken into custody for questioning and later bailed while further inquiries were carried out.

The cannabis dismantling team was called in to take down the set-up and destroy the plants.

PC Anand Singh, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“I am pleased we were able to quickly locate and arrest three suspects and seize a significant number of cannabis plants.

Cannabis production is a serious crime that often brings with it associated offences like burglary, modern slavery and serious acts of violence.

“That is why we are working every day to disrupt the trade in illegal drugs and will continue to respond quickly to reports.

“I would like to thank the 999 caller for alerting us to this incident and our inquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.”
