13-year-old footballer dies after collapsing on the pitch in Nottingham

A statement has been released by Nottinghamshire FA.

The match was at the Forest Recreation Ground.

The player was taken to Queen’s Medical Centre after collapsing on the pitch on Saturday 7 May, 2022.

Nottinghamshire FA released this statement:

‘Nottinghamshire FA is saddened to inform you that following a medical emergency during a youth game yesterday ( 7 May ), 13-year-old Samuel a player for FC Cavaliers has passed away.

Quote from the club –

“Samuel Akwasi FC Cavaliers u13s Player. Samuel has been playing for FC Cavaliers from u9s until now. Was very well respected by All his team members.”

“We all send our condolences to Samuel’s friends, family and team mates at this extremely difficult time.”

A spokesperson for West Bridgford Colts said:

‘We are devastated to learn of the sad passing of Samuel Akwasi, an FC Cavaliers player in the YEL U13 fixture between FC Cavaliers and West Bridgford Colts Rossoneri.

‘We would like to appreciate the best efforts of all involved both at the match and the emergency services.

‘Heartfelt thoughts and condolences to his family, friends and club at this tragic time.
