24 hours in A&E Series 2, Episode 5: Never let you down

In the latest episode of this new series, we follow the stories of three patients who have been supported through the hardest of times by their chosen loved ones.

Channel 4’s fly-on-the-wall documentary series, 24 Hours in A&E, returns to our screens tomorrow night, Thursday 13 March, at 9pm.

In the latest episode of this new series, we follow the stories of three patients who have been supported through the hardest of times by their chosen loved ones.

66-year-old grandmother Carol is rushed to Queen’s Medical Centre (QMC) after sustaining flash burns when a lighter ignited her oxygen tank. While doctors rush to ensure Carol’s airways are clear, we hear from her daughter, Rowan, about Carol’s chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, as well as heart and lung failure, and the effect it has had on her family. Despite Carol’s limited time, she is determined to attend her daughter’s wedding.

71-year-old Nottingham-born Grace is in A&E after tripping over and injuring her knee. She has arrived with her best friend, Lyn, who calls her “her sister from another mother” and has stood by her side through the good times and the bad, including when Grace’s husband died at home in front of them both.

Trevor, 88 years old, is in resus after falling down a full flight of stairs. Registrar Nick is concerned by the number of injuries an incident like this could cause and orders an urgent CT scan. Meanwhile, we hear from Trevor’s wife, Jean, about her travels around the world with Trevor, who served in the RAF, and how things changed for them when he woke up one morning blind.
