Nottingham City Council has approved the allocation of funds to Greenfields Community Primary School.
The decision outlines the Council’s plan to improve the school’s capacity to support the increasing number of pupils with autism and other complex needs.
Capital Funding Boost for SEND Support
The Council has earmarked a total of £360,000 for the project, with £302,818.36 coming from Education S106 funding and an additional £57,182 from High Needs Capital Funding.
This investment is aimed at developing and improving the SEND facilities at the school, particularly the Foundation Unit, which is currently under significant pressure due to the rise in pupils requiring specialised support.
The funding includes contributions linked to two separate developments. The first is from the Trent Bridge Quays Phase I (formerly Banton House) Meadow Lane S106 agreement, which provided a single sum of £115,912.70, of which £112,435.32 remains after administrative deductions. The second contribution comes from the Queens Road, Nottingham Railway Carpark S106 agreement, amounting to £191,455.99, with £190,383.04 available after similar deductions.
These funds are designated for the provision of primary school places and enhanced education facilities to accommodate pupils from the respective developments. Greenfields Community Primary School, being full and oversubscribed, is the beneficiary of this funding, which will be used to create additional space and facilities within the Foundation Unit.
Lindums has been selected to carry out the works using the Scape Regional Construction Framework. The decision also delegates authority to the Director of Education Services to award the contract. Legal advice confirms that the allocation of funds complies with the obligations of the S106 agreements and that the Council must ensure the funds are spent or allocated within five years of receipt to avoid repayment.
Community and Councillor Engagement
The Meadows Ward Councillors have been informed and consulted on the proposal, with no comments received, indicating community support for the project. The decision is subject to a ‘Call In’ process with an expiry date of 15/11/2023, allowing for further scrutiny if necessary.
