Nottinghamshire Police officer cleared of Gross Misconduct

The panel deemed that the force used was not excessive and not unjustified and therefore could not amount to misconduct.

A serving Nottinghamshire Police officer has been cleared of gross misconduct, following an independently-chaired public hearing.

The Police Constable appeared at the public hearing at Nottinghamshire Police’s Sherwood Lodge Headquarters to answer one allegation of an alleged breach of the expected standards of professional behaviour.

The allegation was made in respect of the officer’s use of force, authority respect and courtesy and discreditable conduct while escorting a prisoner who was under arrest following an incident 6 June 2018.

The panel deemed that the force used was not excessive and not unjustified and therefore could not amount to misconduct.

The hearing – which was led by an independent, legally-qualified chair – ran from Monday 24 to Thursday 27 February before the panel determined the allegation to be unfounded.

Nottinghamshire Police Chief Constable Craig Guildford said: “Nottinghamshire Police considers each complaint it receives to ensure its officers, staff and volunteers are continuing to uphold the highest possible standards of professional behaviour.

“This case is an example of how those complaints are thoroughly investigated and that the appropriate national processes are followed when considering an allegation.

“The force acknowledges the findings of the panel which we will now use to understand whether there any lessons we can learn from this case.”
