Nottinghamshire Police has released the name of a 75-year-old woman who died in a house fire in Costock.
Mary (also known as Lynette) Shaw’s body was found after the fire was extinguished in Manor Close in the early hours of Saturday 7 November.
A scene remained in place in until Monday 9 November while detectives worked closely with Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service to establish the circumstances of the fire.
An investigation into Mary’s death is ongoing, however, it is not currently being treated as suspicious.
Detective Inspector Rachael North, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was a tragic incident that sadly resulted in the loss of a life.
“A man who was taken to hospital for treatment for injuries that are not life-threatening is on the way to making a full recovery.
“Mary’s family have asked for privacy during this difficult time.”
Area Manager Damien West, of Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “Our thoughts are with Mary’s family, friends and the local community at this time. This tragic incident reminds us all of the devastating consequences that a fire can have and I would urge everyone to take a moment to check their own homes.
“We would always encourage people to ensure they have working smoke alarms on each floor of their home, to have a night-time routine and to ensure that appliances in their home are regularly checked and tested.
“Further home safety advice can be accessed through our website (https://www.notts-fire.gov.uk/your-safety/safety-in-your-home) where you can also request a free Safe & Well Visit to check your smoke alarms and fit new ones, if required.
“I would also urge everyone to take a few moments to check on older relatives and neighbours to ensure they have the correct fire safety precautions in their homes.”
