Arrests after man run over by a car during argument

Police investigating a violent incident during which a man was reportedly run over by a car have made multiple arrests.

Newark officers attended College Close following reports an argument had escalated to a vehicle being used as a weapon.

A knife was also allegedly brandished during the dispute, before one of the people involved was driven at and hit with a car twice.

He was left with injuries to his head, following the assault – around 6pm on Thursday (17 July) – with police then arriving soon after.

Three suspects were detained at the scene, with one of them punching another in the face while they were being led away by officers.

Two men, aged 18 and 40, were both subsequently arrested on suspicion of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm.

The 18-year-old was additionally arrested on suspicion of assault and obstructing police.

A 30-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of possessing a knife in public.
Detective Sergeant Rachel Mayfield, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“This was a completely unacceptable incident that could’ve quite easily resulted in very serious injury.

“While everyone involved was extremely fortunate that the man hit by the car wasn’t more seriously hurt, they would’ve had no way of knowing that when they did what they did.

“We also do not accept or condone knife crime in Nottinghamshire and as a force we take a very firm stance on any violent or aggressive behaviour and simply won’t tolerate this happening.

“Our hope is that the rapid and robust response of the officers involved and the triple arrest that subsequently followed properly illustrates this point.”
