Plans for new basement bar in Nottingham’s Lace Market

Plans for a new basement bar in Nottingham’s Lace Market have been approved by the council.

Brewers at Bang The Elephant Co Ltd and Emperors Brewery submitted the proposals to Nottingham City Council in July 2025 – these were approved on Monday (October 13).

The new spot – named The Tusk & Raider – will be located in the basement of 1 Broadway in the city centre’s Lace Market, which sits on the corner of St Mary’s Gate.

The space was previously used as a pilates studio. Now approval has been granted, the space will offer a new bar location to an area that is void of drinking establishments, according to plans.

Planning papers say the collaboration between the two local  breweries sets out to create “one of the UK’s premier Craft Beer destinations”.

They continued: “We believe that The Tusk & Raider will be a massive asset and an extremely valuable addition to what is an already thriving city centre.”

Plans say the space will retain the main open plan floorspace with a small number of fixed tables being added along with a bar area.

There were previous plans to open up The Tusk & Raider as a café and lounge but these fell through in 2024 where the former traditional English tearoom, Thea Caffea, was located on Enfield Chambers off Low Pavement.

The deal for the property fell through and Kushi-Ya took over the spot.

Once opened, the bar will be open from 12pm until 11pm Sunday to Wednesday and from 12pm until 1am Thursday to Saturday.

Plans also say the new venue will be able to offer small plates and bar snacks to customers.
