Ashfield District Council carried out a large-scale clean-up of Hucknall town centre last week.
Officers from the Environment and Community Safety teams joined forces to clean up the area and engage with residents and businesses over two days of targeted action.
Environment teams worked to remove hundreds of vape stickers from bins in the town centre, weeds from pathways and outside shops, dog and bird fouling, as well as carrying out litter picking and graffiti removal.
Community Protection Officers carried out inspections of trade waste, resulting in two businesses being issued with Section 47 notices for overflowing and poor storage of trade waste.
Officers also carried out garden inspections on the residential streets surrounding the town centre and engaged with residents to identify potential recurring problems in the area. These included waste on land, fly-tipping hotspots, anti-social behaviour and wider neighbourhood issues.
Cllr John Wilmott, Executive Lead Member for Community Safety and Crime Reduction, said:
“This was a fantastic two days of action from multiple teams across the Council. We achieved some great results, with highlights including intervening with two motorbikes riding through the town centre and illegal parking being immediately dealt with. These days prove that the Council takes community safety issues seriously, and we will do everything in our power to tackle them.”
Officers engaged with hundreds of residents, businesses and young people throughout the day, offering reassurance, advice and information on a range of issues, including anti-social behaviour, housing, environmental crime and domestic abuse.

Cllr Lee Waters, Ward Member for Hucknall Central, also commented:
“It was great to see so many officers out in force in Hucknall town centre. These action days have made a real difference to the town, seeing the improvements first-hand and hearing the positive feedback from residents. The Council is putting pride back into the District, and these action days are just one of the ways we are doing this.”
As part of the Big Ashfield Spring Clean 2026, we’ll be hosting community litter picks across the district throughout March. Come along, get involved, and help us clean up the district.
