Recreation ground car park to close for resurfacing for four weeks

Located on Mile End Road, Colwick, Nottingham (NG4 2DW), the car park will be fully closed throughout the four‑week period while contractors carry out upgrades that will significantly improve the usability and capacity of the site for visitors.

Gedling Borough Council will be temporarily closing the car park at Colwick Recreation Ground from Monday 9 March to Friday 3 April 2026 to allow essential resurfacing and improvement works to take place.

The works include a full resurfacing of the current car park to a more durable tarmac surface, as well as the introduction of marked parking bays. These improvements are designed to maximise the available space, improve safety, and create a better experience for those accessing the recreation ground and car park.

This project has received £81,000 from the Mayor of the East Midlands and East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA) from funding provided by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF).

Cllr Jenny Hollingsworth, Portfolio Holder for Sustainable Growth and Economy said:

“We appreciate that this temporary closure may cause some inconvenience for regular visitors, but these improvements will provide long‑term benefits for everyone using the recreation ground. The new surface and layout will create a more accessible and efficient car park that better meets the needs of the community.”

Claire Ward, Mayor of the East Midlands said:

“I’m pleased that this funding will be used to improve and repair the car park at Colwick Recreation Ground. This will enable more visitors to access the park safely and means that the car park will be fit for the future.”

Visitors are encouraged to consider alternative parking options during the four-week closure. The council thanks all users for their patience and understanding while these improvements are delivered.
