A man who strangled, headbutted and repeatedly assaulted his former partner has been jailed for four years.
Matthew Bradley, 41, formerly of Hadrian Gardens in Bestwood, was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court on Wednesday 4 March after admitting a series of domestic abuse offences.
The court heard Bradley engaged in controlling and coercive behaviour towards the woman during their seven-week relationship between September and October 2025.
During that period he carried out a number of assaults, including headbutting and punching the victim in the face on several occasions. In another incident he strangled the woman.
Bradley also prevented the victim from returning to her home and later waited outside her address.
On 15 October he was made subject to a Domestic Violence Protection Order (DVPO), which banned him from contacting the victim or returning to her home. He later breached the order and continued to harass her.
The incidents were reported to Nottinghamshire Police by a third-party witness, leading to Bradley being arrested again.
Bradley initially pleaded not guilty but later admitted engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, intentional suffocation, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and two counts of assault by beating.

In addition to the four-year prison sentence, the court imposed a ten-year restraining order preventing him from contacting the victim.
Detective Constable Alexander Terry, of Nottinghamshire Police, said the case involved serious domestic abuse and welcomed the court’s decision to impose a custodial sentence.
