Second arrest after serious city crash leaves woman injured

A second suspect has been arrested after a car collided with a pedestrian in Nottingham city centre.

Emergency services were called to Friar Lane following the incident, around 4.55pm yesterday (22 March).

A woman was rushed to hospital with serious injuries after being struck by the vehicle.

Police initially arrested an 18-year-old man in the aftermath of the collision, while another suspect fled from the scene.

A second individual – a 19-year-old man – was then also detained later that evening, after presenting at a police station.

This followed the arrest of the 18-year-old man on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Detective Sergeant Martine Smith, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“Our officers are still in the process of investigating this distressing incident but can confirm we’ve now arrested two suspects.

“A woman sustained serious injuries after being struck by a car and our thoughts remain with her as she recovers in hospital.

“Due to the time and location where this happened, this collision will have been witnessed by several members of the public.

“If you were one of them – and haven’t done so already – we’d ask that you please contact us and share any information you have.

“That includes any dash-cam or CCTV footage that you may have inadvertently recorded.”
