Two-year court order prevents unauthorised development at Nottinghamshire plot

An interim injunction has been secured to prevent unauthorised development at a plot of land in Newark.

The Local Planning Authority said the injunction relates to land known as The Cottage, off Lincoln Road, which is currently occupied only by the shell of a derelict residential property.

The authority said it had received enquiries about the large plot, which has previously been considered for housing redevelopment. However, earlier proposals were refused because of concerns over highway safety.

Because of those concerns, the council obtained an interim injunction on 2 April 2026 prohibiting development from taking place unless planning permission is granted.

At a further hearing on 13 April 2026, the injunction was extended for two years.

The council said the order does not prevent the landowner from submitting a planning application to redevelop the site, but it means development cannot proceed without the necessary permission.
