Victoria Embankment Paddling Pool opens in time for 30˚C Bank Holiday weekend

The reopening is announced for one of Nottingham’s best-known family facilities.

Nottingham City Council said:

‘We are delighted to announce that the Victoria Embankment paddling pool is now open for the season from today (Wednesday 20 May), operating daily between 10:00 and 18:00.’

Temperatures are expected to rise for the rest of this week reaching up to 31 degrees next week according to some forecasters.

The Victoria Embankment paddling pool has been a popular summer attraction for generations, with the original pool dating back to 1928 and long regarded as part of the city’s riverside heritage. It was forced to close in 2021 after problems with leaks and ageing plant equipment, prompting consultation on what should replace it.

Plans for the new-look facility followed strong public support for a replacement water-play area, combining elements of a traditional paddling pool with splash park-style features.

The restoration was funded through a mix of National Lottery Heritage Fund support, Section 106 developer contributions and Government Levelling Up funding, with the final design intended to preserve the spirit of the old pool while creating a more modern, sustainable attraction for families.

The new pool facilities opened in May 2025.
