A new Nottingham health and fitness destination has announced support for a leading motor neuron disease charity founded by rugby legend Doddie Weir, building on existing charitable efforts for MND already completed by members of its team.
Balance Health Nottingham has announced support for My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, committing to raise funds and awareness for the condition through a series of fundraising initiatives.
The announcement follows recent fundraising activity by members of the Balance Health Nottingham team, who already support motor neuron disease charities, including hosting a charity dinner to raise funds and awareness. The decision to support My Name’5 Doddie Foundation as the organisation’s chosen charity reflects both this ongoing commitment and a deeply personal connection within the team, with one of Balance’s doctors having sadly lost a close friend to the disease.
Motor neuron disease (MND) affects around 5,000 people in the UK at any one time, with no cure currently available. My Name’5 Doddie Foundation has become one of the country’s most recognisable MND charities, funding research and supporting those living with the disease.
The Nottingham-based facility, one of the first in the UK to bring together fitness, diagnostics and healthcare under one roof, will host fundraising events, fitness challenges and awareness campaigns throughout the year, open to both members and the wider public.
Emma Cater, Managing Director at Balance Health Nottingham, says:
“This is about using what we’ve built here in Nottingham to make a real difference. MND is a devastating condition that affects families across the UK, and the work of My Name’5 Doddie Foundation is incredibly important.
As a team, we’ve already seen the impact of this disease up close, and that makes this relationship even more meaningful. We’re proud to support the Foundation and to bring our community together behind a cause that truly matters.”
Paul Thompson, Director of Fundraising at My Name’5 Doddie Foundation says:
“This is a great chance to support Balance Health Nottingham to help tackle motor neuron disease. The team have a history of getting behind the cause and have sadly had first-hand experience of the disease in their community.
Â
We can’t wait to get the relationship going and see what we can achieve together.”
The relationship is expected to include participation events, giving local people the opportunity to get involved while supporting vital research.
Balance Health Nottingham, which recently opened its doors, is backed by a group of local clinicians and healthcare leaders and is focused on improving long-term health outcomes across Nottinghamshire.
