An inspiring new wildlife themed mural has been unveiled on Waterside Bridge that recently opened over the River Trent as part of a collaborative project between Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) and Nottingham City Council (NCC).
The colourful artwork is based around the theme of wildlife and nature throughout Rushcliffe and provides a unique and refreshing feel to the Lady Bay side of the 87-metre network arch bridge.
Local illustrator Tom ‘Shifter’ Wood created the magnificent designs that showcase the borough’s wonderful natural assets before artist Nathan Bainbridge of Nottingham based urban design company SmallKid brought them to life.
Walkers and cyclists who utilise the new bridge, which helps to further link Rushcliffe and the City of Nottingham communities, will be able to enjoy the mural which features local animals such as a male mallard, kingfisher, pike, frog, water vole and dragonfly.
These elements of nature presented create wonderful views from all angles on the bridge and paths thanks to the attention to detail and craftsmanship of the artistic team who crafted the brilliant addition to the bridge scheme.
The Bridge, which was officially opened on June 2, was built locally using British steel at Britons Ltd in Hucknall. It provides a more accessible route across the river, linking up neighbourhoods, access to Rushcliffe’s international sports grounds and leisure facilities and encouraging lower carbon journeys.
