Police announce date and location for first day of facial recognition cameras in Nottingham city

Nottinghamshire Police says that its first deployment of facial recognition technology to will be on Friday 21 August.

The location will be Old Market Square and the surrounding areas.

The technology will be built into a marked police van, which has a 360-degree dual camera system, enabling officers to cover a large area.

Officers will create ‘a watchlist’ of those suspected of serious crimes before the van is deployed.

If you are not on the watchlist then you have nothing to worry about. The scans of your faces are not stored and deleted within seconds.

The technology will alert officers once it identifies one of the individuals on the list, with officers then engaging with that individual to assess whether further action is needed.
