Castle Rock has secured planning permission to move its brewery from Nottingham city centre to a historic brewing site in Old Basford.
The company will relocate to the former home of Murphy & Son, a building originally constructed in 1891 for the Prince of Wales Brewery. It remained a working brewery until the early 20th century.
The announcement follows the sale of Castle Rock’s current brewery site, which became public in November 2024. Its existing lease runs until March 2027.
Castle Rock said it had been exploring potential locations since the sale and was now developing plans for the move. A relocation date has not yet been announced.
The company said: “We are so excited to not only continue our journey as a brewery at this historic site, but also to return the site to its original purpose over a century later.”
The Vat and Fiddle pub will continue to operate as usual. Castle Rock said it remained optimistic about retaining the Old Cold Store and the pub’s back garden, although their longer-term future has yet to be confirmed.
Both spaces remain secured under the current lease until March 2027, with further details expected as plans develop.
The relocation announcement comes ahead of two anniversaries in 2027, when Castle Rock will mark 50 years as a pub group and 30 years as a brewery.
The company is preparing a programme of celebrations, including events in its pubs and special beers. Further details will be announced.
