No major live incident has been identified on Nottinghamshire’s main strategic roads.
The main pressure points for Thursday morning are planned works at A52 Wheatcroft, Maid Marian Way/Broad Marsh, Bramcote Lane, Victoria Centre, and the overnight/late-night rail engineering alterations. Public transport passengers should still check live bus, tram and rail departures before travelling.
Roads and motorways
No major new collision or emergency closure has been identified on Nottinghamshire’s principal strategic routes at the time of this check.
Several National Highways overnight restrictions were due to finish by 06:00 this morning, including works on the A1 around the A52/Grantham area.
The A52 currently has no live closure reported, although planned lane restrictions remain in force at Wheatcroft.
A52 Wheatcroft
The major A52 Wheatcroft junction works remain one of the most significant issues for commuters south of Nottingham.
Utility companies began work on Monday ahead of the main junction reconstruction. Lane closures are in place Monday to Friday and the speed limit has been reduced to 40mph through the works.
National Highways’ current programme shows lane restrictions on both the eastbound and westbound A52 around Wheatcroft through Friday 11 September.
The utility phase at Wheatcroft is expected to last around three months, while the overall Wheatcroft and Nottingham Knight improvement programme is scheduled to continue until spring 2029.
Rail – engineering alterations today
There are several alterations affecting East Midlands Railway services through Nottingham today.
Engineering work between Nottingham and Lincoln, Long Eaton and Leicester/Loughborough means a number of late-night trains are replaced or amended.
Tonight’s 23:00 Lincoln to Nottingham will not run. A replacement bus will run through to Nottingham, calling at Hykeham, Swinderby, Collingham, Newark North Gate, Newark Castle, Fiskerton, Bleasby, Lowdham, Burton Joyce and Carlton.
The 23:20 Matlock to Nottingham terminates at Derby, with a replacement bus through Spondon, Long Eaton, Attenborough and Beeston.
The 23:50 Nottingham to Derby is also replaced by a bus, calling at Beeston and Long Eaton, while the 23:20 Nottingham to Leicester terminates at Loughborough, with replacement transport onwards.
There is one daytime alteration today: the 09:26 Crewe to Lincoln starts from Crewe at 09:10, running up to 17 minutes earlier as far as Longton.
Nottingham–London trains
Separate overnight engineering works continue on the Midland Main Line.
The 21:42 Nottingham to London St Pancras is amended tonight, arriving into London earlier than its normal timetable. These alterations continue through Friday 11 September.
National Rail – Nottingham engineering alterations
CrossCountry – late Nottingham service
The 23:09 Birmingham New Street to Nottingham is also affected tonight.
The train will terminate at Derby, with a replacement bus operating from Derby to Nottingham. This is the final scheduled night of the current alteration.

Maid Marian Way – Broad Marsh works
The new traffic management around Maid Marian Way remains in place following its introduction yesterday for the next phase of Broad Marsh demolition.
Nottingham City Transport says buses are not currently expected to divert, but lane restrictions and temporary traffic lights will cause delays.
The arrangements relate to demolition of the former NCP car park and former Nottingham College building and are expected to remain in place until the end of November.
Bramcote Lane
The weekday closure of Bramcote Lane continues today between 09:30 and 17:00.
NCT 18A and Pink 30 divert via Wollaton Vale and Trowell Road. The current programme runs until Thursday 17 September.
Victoria Centre
Works on Milton Street alongside Victoria Centre continue to affect Pink 28 and 30.
Both services have temporarily moved from their normal Victoria Centre stops to Burton Street alongside The Cornerhouse.
Beeston Road
The major overnight roadworks around Beeston Road and University Boulevard continue.
These have been affecting buses between Nottingham, QMC, Dunkirk and Beeston, including indigo and skylink Nottingham, with stops around QMC, University East Entrance, Dunkirk, University South Entrance and the Tennis Centre affected during overnight closures.
Jacksdale – Pye Hill Road tonight
Another overnight closure is scheduled on Pye Hill Road at Jacksdale tonight.
trentbarton says the works run between 19:00 and 06:00, affecting rainbow one and a series of stops around Jacksdale, Westwood and Brinsley. The current programme continues through Friday 11 September.
Mansfield
Overnight closures also continue on Stockwell Gate and Belvedere Street in Mansfield until Sunday 13 September.
trentbarton services are affected, with stops including Mansfield ASDA, Mansfield Community Hospital, Botany Avenue, Moor Lane, Frank Avenue and Hermitage Lane missed during the closures.
Other significant roadworks
Longer-term works continue on the A614/A6097 corridor, including the major schemes at Lowdham Roundabout and Kirk Hill, East Bridgford.
At East Bridgford, Kirk Hill and East Bridgford Road remain closed as part of the long-term junction reconstruction programme.
Looking ahead, a significant Nottingham bus disruption begins on Monday 14 September, when Mansfield Road between Goose Fair Island and Forest Road begins closing overnight for resurfacing. Brown, Lime, Yellow and Purple Line services towards the city will divert via Gregory Boulevard, Alfreton Road and Canning Circus.
