Councillor Jason Zadrozny will step down as Leader of Ashfield District Council with effect from Monday, 28 September and will also leave the Ashfield Independents group.
Cllr Zadrozny has also confirmed he intends to remain a councillor, as an independent non-aligned member. The appointment of a new Leader will take place at the Council meeting on 28 September.
Ashfield District Council will continue to carry out its duties and provide services to the community in line with its legal and democratic responsibilities.
The organisation says it remains stable and focused on delivering services for its residents, businesses, and communities. It add that the council’s day-to-day operations continue uninterrupted, and there will be no impact on the delivery of council services.
A jury at Northampton Crown Court convicted Jason Zadrozny of nine fraud offences and four offences of income tax evasion on Monday 21 September. He was acquitted of three other fraud charges.
He has been released on bail ahead of sentencing on 27 November.
