Gas mains replacement works have started in West Bridgford town centre today (Monday 28 September), with the first road closure now in place.
The Cadent Gas programme is expected to continue until Friday 18 December 2026, with a series of road closures, temporary traffic lights and parking restrictions introduced at different stages.
Images taken on Monday show barriers, works vehicles and traffic management in place around Rectory Road as the first phase gets under way.
Rectory Road is now closed to eastbound traffic between Exchange Road and Central Avenue and is scheduled to remain closed until Friday 9 October.
A diversion for eastbound traffic is via Musters Road, Melton Road, Burleigh Road and Gordon Road.
Further restrictions begin on Tuesday 29 September, when Exchange Road is due to close from its junction with Rectory Road for around 30 metres southwards. That closure is also scheduled to remain in place until Friday 9 October.
Traffic affected by the Exchange Road closure will be diverted via Musters Road and Rectory Road.
Further changes will follow as the gas mains work progresses through the town centre.
Gordon Road is scheduled to close to northbound traffic along the 70-metre section immediately south of its junction with Rectory Road from Monday 5 October until Friday 16 October.

Although the advertised dates for the Rectory Road and Gordon Road restrictions overlap between 5 and 9 October, the traffic management notice states that the two closures will not operate at the same time.
The diversion for the Gordon Road closure will be via Rectory Road, Musters Road, Melton Road and Burleigh Road.
Later phases will also affect parking and loading.
Waiting, loading and unloading will be prohibited at all times on both sides of Albert Road from Monday 19 October until Friday 13 November.
Similar restrictions will then apply along the whole of Violet Road from Monday 2 November until Friday 20 November.
Temporary two-way and multi-way traffic lights will also be introduced as required on Albert Road, Violet Road, Abbey Road and Cyril Road.
The overall Cadent programme is scheduled to continue until 18 December, although the currently advertised road closures finish during October and the specified waiting and loading restrictions end during November.
Drivers travelling through West Bridgford town centre are advised to allow extra time while the restrictions are in place.
