Two horses were led to safety after a fire broke out in a horsebox travelling on the M1, leaving one with a slight injury.
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said an electrical fault in the engine caused the blaze.
Drivers used fire extinguishers to help tackle the fire while the horses were freed from the vehicle and moved to a place of safety at Trowell Services.
Firefighters from Stapleford and Ilkeston attended, using a hose reel jet and a thermal imaging camera to deal with the blaze.
The service shared the incident alongside a photograph of Jade, one of its on-call firefighters, to highlight the role ahead of an upcoming recruitment campaign.
Jade responds to emergencies via a pager, fitting her on-call duties around her other responsibilities and making herself available to help when needed.
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said it would soon be recruiting more on-call firefighters and encouraged anyone interested to find out more about the role.
Further information is available on the National Fire Chiefs Council’s on-call firefighting website.
