Thousands of unpaid carers across Nottingham are set to benefit from a new £500,000 investment designed to improve respite opportunities, digital support, equipment pathways and early identification of carers.
The funding forms part of a wider package of more than £20 million approved by Nottingham City Council for services and projects across the city, funded through a one-off underspend in the Council’s 2025/26 budget.
The new Carer’s Offer will help strengthen support for Nottingham’s unpaid carers, who play a vital role in helping family members, friends and neighbours live independently. The programme will improve access to respite services, develop digital support solutions, streamline access to equipment and work with community organisations to identify and support hidden carers earlier.
The investment supports the delivery of Nottingham’s Joint Carers Strategy 2023-2028 and responds to areas where carers and partner organisations have identified opportunities for improvement.
Councillor Helen Kalsi, Executive Member for Adult Social Care and Health at Nottingham City Council, said: “Unpaid carers are the backbone of our health and care system, providing invaluable support to loved ones every day, often without recognition. This £500,000 investment demonstrates our commitment to making sure carers receive the support they deserve.
“As part of the Council’s wider decision to invest more than £20 million into services and projects across Nottingham, this funding will help us modernise support for carers, improve access to respite and practical help, and ensure that more people are identified and supported before they reach crisis point.
“By working alongside voluntary and community organisations, we can ensure carers have the tools, advice and support they need to maintain their own wellbeing while continuing in their caring roles.”
The programme will be delivered in partnership with health, voluntary and community sector organisations, creating new pathways into support and helping carers access the right assistance at the right time. The Council will begin rolling out the enhanced offer in the coming months, with updates provided as new services and support pathways become available.
