Nottinghamshire wind warning as gusts of up to 55mph could cause disruption

Winds of up to 55mph could bring travel disruption and power cuts to Nottinghamshire on Friday.

The Met Office warning highlights the possibility of inland gales, with gusts of around 45 to 55mph during Friday daytime.

Locally heavy rain, combined with strong winds and many trees still in full leaf, could lead to power outages and disruption on the roads and railways.

Although winds across the warning area are not expected to be as strong as those further south and west, some short-term loss of power and other services is possible.

High-sided vehicles are likely to face delays on exposed routes and bridges. Some bus and train services could also be affected, with journeys taking longer.

Drivers are advised to check road conditions before setting off, while public transport passengers should check for service updates and amend their plans if necessary.

The Met Office also recommends preparing for possible power cuts by gathering torches, batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items.

Residents should keep checking their local forecast, as weather warnings can change quickly.
