Police have arrested two suspects after a serious crash near Nottingham Trent University Clifton campus.
Two cars – a Ford Fiesta and a BMW – were involved in the collision, which took place around 1.45am today (Friday 20 September) on the A453 outside Nottingham Trent University’s Clifton campus.
A passenger in the Fiesta and a passenger in the BMW sustained injuries that are currently believed to be life-threatening.
Following inquiries officers arrested a 50-year-old man on suspicion of dangerous driving and a 19-year-old man on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and drink driving.
Closures remain in place on the A453 between Green Lane and Farnborough Road.
Drivers are advised to avoid this area, with closures predicted to remain in place for several hours.
HGV drivers in particular are asked to use alternative routes, so as to avoid causing significant traffic disruption.
Sergeant Steve Waft, of Nottinghamshire Police’s Roads Policing Unit, said: “I appreciate the disruption that this incident will have caused, and I want to reassure motorists that we are working hard to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.
“However, due to the extent of the collision, we are expecting the closure to remain in place for several hours while our inquiries are continuing, and we urge motorists to avoid the area if possible.
“I’d like to thank people for their patience and understanding as we continue to respond to this incident.”
Anyone with information about the incident, particularly any motorists who were in the area around the time and who may have captured dashcam footage, are asked to contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 32 of 20 September 2024.
