Investigation works are now complete, with recovery ongoing.
Northbound requires fully resurfacing and will take some time.

Diversion in place
Traffic is being diverted locally at scene by Police via Farnborough Road, Southchurch Drive and Green Lane. Please note that this route is not suitable for HGV’s
There are strategic diversions available for those travelling from further afield. These diversions are not suitable for non-motorway traffic.
Road users wishing to travel northbound are advised to follow the ‘Solid Square’ diversion symbol on road signs
At J24 of of the M1 (near Kegworth) join the M1 northbound and continue for approximately 4 miles to J25.
Exit the M1 northbound at J25 and at the Sandiacre Interchange take the 3rd exit onto the A52/Brian Clough Way eastbound towards Nottingham/Ilkeston.
Remain on the A52 eastbound for approximately 5 miles to the junction with the A6200/A6514 at Lenton.
At the roundabout take the 3rd exit to and then keep right to remain on the A52.
Continue on the A52 for approximately 2 miles to reach the junction with the AA453 and continue your journey.
Road users wishing to travel southbound are advised to follow the ‘Solid Diamond’ diversion symbol on road signs
From the A453 junction travel along the A52 westbound until the junction with the A6200/A6514 and take the exit slip to continue on the A52.
At the roundabout take the 1st exit to remain on the A52 towards “The South” & Derby
Travel along the A52 for approximately 5 miles to, passing through Stapleford and Sandiacre to reach the M1 J25.
Continue on the M1 south to J24 (Kegworth) where it meets the A453 to continue your journey.

It is expected that the road will remain closed for several further hours.

Road closed and very slow traffic due to crash investigation work on A453 Remembrance Way both ways from Farnborough Road to Green Lane. Congestion to Farnborough Road, Green Lane and Southchurch Drive as traffic diverts the closure. Three cars involved.
Nottinghamshire Police | 5:40 am Friday 20 September
The incident happened on the A453 near Nottingham Trent University’s Clifton campus.
Multiple vehicles were involved in the collision, which took place around 1.45am today (20 September).
At least one person involved sustained injuries that are currently believed to be life-threatening.
Closures on the A453 have been put in place between Green Lane and Farnborough Road.
Drivers are advised to avoid this area, with closures predicted to remain in place for some time.
HGV drivers in particular are asked to use alternative routes, so as to avoid causing significant traffic disruption.
Chief Inspector Neil Humprhis, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Emergency services will remain at the scene for some time while we investigate this collision.
“I’d like to thank people for their patience as we continue to respond to this ongoing incident.
“Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 32 of 20 September 2024.”
