The large university gained a gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework and is also the top-tanked modern university in the British Universities and Colleges Sports (Bucs) league.
The University of Warwick is the number one university in the Midlands ranking ninth, according to The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2025.It also took triple gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework and our analysis of the National Student Survey shows high levels of satisfaction with teaching quality (33=) and the wider undergraduate experience (13th) — outdoing most of Britain’s research heavyweights.
It was jointly shortlisted with the University of Leicester for our overall University of the Year 2025. Leicester rose seven places to rank in the top 30 UK universities boosted by soaring rates of student satisfaction — up 51 places year-on-year for the broad experience and up 40 places for their feelings about teaching quality.
Yet again Loughborough University has been awarded Sports University of the Year 2025. The medal count of athletes who have studied and trained at Loughborough at the Paris Olympics and Paralympics was an astonishing 35. Loughborough’s campus hosts the governing bodies of England Netball, England and Wales Cricket, British Weightlifting, British Swimming, British Triathlon, and British Athletics.
Bishop Grosseteste University was named runner-up for University of the Year for Teaching Quality 2025. It ranks top in the UK for teaching quality in our new NSS analysis. Such unrivalled outcomes reflect the personal touch that is the hallmark of this small university, which has fewer than 1,700 full-time undergraduates on campus
The London School of Economics and Political Science takes the top spot for the first time in the guide’s 31-year history of domestic UK university ranking, followed by the University of St Andrews.
