Appeal after car hits tree in Clifton leaving driver in hospital

Police are seeking the public’s help after a car crashed into a tree in Clifton.

Nottinghamshire Police was called to the crash in Green Lane at around 7.30pm yesterday (Wednesday 7 April 2021).

It was reported that the car was being driven at speed before going around a corner and smashing into the tree.

The driver was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre. His injuries are not currently believed to be serious. There was no-one else in the car.

Following enquiries a 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking in relation to a car being taken without consent from a property in Meadowvale Crescent in Clifton last night. He was later released pending further enquiries.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service also attended the crash to ensure the vehicle was safe, while the city council’s highways team dealt with fluid on the road.

The car was recovered and the road was clear by 8.50pm.

Sergeant Declan Bourne, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this incident. As part of our investigation we are appealing for anyone who saw what happened, anyone with CCTV footage or any drivers who may have captured dash cam footage of the incident to please get in contact with us.
