Armed officers and police dog pursue suspect after car fails to stop

A suspect was detained by a police dog after a car failed to stop.

Officers spotted the car travelling without insurance in Radford, at about 1.30pm on Saturday 24 January.

The car was abandoned a short time later and two suspects ran from the scene.

One was chased and detained by an authorised firearms officer in an alleyway near Darley Avenue, and the other was detained by PD Max in the garden of a nearby house.

A large knife and a baseball bat were recovered from the car, along with several bank cards.

A large quantity of cash was also recovered from the suspected driver

Two boys, aged 17 and 16, were arrested on suspicion of theft and possessing an offensive weapon.

The older boy was also detained on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving without a licence and acquiring criminal property.

Both were later released on bail as investigations continue.

Inspector Chris Chell, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“The suspects in this case were soon in cuffs thanks to the speed over the ground of one of our authorised firearms officers, and the actions of one of our highly-trained dog units.

“Our investigation into what happened will now continue.”
