A suspected burglar was arrested at the scene when officers responded to a break-in at a city centre shopping arcade.
Police were called to West End Arcade, Nottingham, around 1.45am on Tuesday (28 January) after a business owner heard glass being smashed and spotted an intruder.
Officers arrived a short time later and contained the building before arresting a suspect as he attempted to flee from the scene.
A 56-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary.
Inquiries are continuing to discover whether any items are missing.
Detective Chief Inspector Claire Gould, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“We respond immediately to any report of a burglary in progress and were at the scene quickly.
“Officers then did an excellent job in containing a large building with multiple access points, which enabled them to arrest this suspect.
“We understand break-ins of this nature are demoralising for the members of staff who have to clean up after them and costly for businesses.
“That is why we take reports of commercial burglaries very seriously. I’d also like to thank the member of the public for their alertness and initial call to the scene.
“Despite the arrest, our investigation remains ongoing and anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting incident number 35 of 28 January 2025, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
