Patrolling Nottingham City North police officers arrested two suspects for drug-dealing offences on the same day.
The two separate incidents happened in Top Valley and Bestwood respectively on Sunday (3 May).
Officers were out on patrol on both occasions when they spotted something that didn’t look quite right.
Taking the Top Valley incident first – at around 12.50 am – police pulled over a car driving without its lights on.
After stopping the vehicle in Langbank Avenue, officers believed something untoward could be on board, so they searched the car.
These checks ultimately resulted in multiple bottles – two dozen in fact – of liquid codeine being discovered inside.
In addition to the Class B drugs, police also found large quantities of cash and multiple phones during their searches.
Based on this, the driver – an 18-year-old man – was arrested on suspicion of possessing Class B drugs with intent to supply.
Fast forward a few hours to 2.15 pm that same day, and officers made another drugs discovery while out on patrol in Bestwood.
After spotting a suspicious encounter in Bala Drive between a pedestrian and an electric bike rider, officers moved in to investigate.
As they approached, the individual tried to run from police but didn’t get far before being detained in nearby gardens off Beckhampton Road.
Multiple deal bags containing Class B drugs were quickly found and seized, with officers also finding a burner-style phone nearby.
A 24-year-old man was duly arrested by police on suspicion of possessing Class B drugs with intent to supply.
Inspector Paul Ferguson, Neighbourhood Inspector for City North, said:
“Tackling drug supply has been a longstanding priority for our area, so these two discoveries were very much welcomed.
“Both arrests were made on the same day while our officers were out on patrol, with quantities of liquid codeine and cannabis then found and seized.
“Whether it’s Class A, B or C drugs, we as a policing team will not tolerate any drug dealing in our communities and will always look to take action when we have any suspicions.”
