A man was taken to hospital with a puncture wound under his left armpit after being stabbed during a fight overnight next to the River Trent.
Officers were called at around 5.20 am to Bridgford House next to Trent Bridge in West Bridgford following reports of an assault.
It was reported two men were shouting, swearing and fighting each other.
Detective Sergeant Charlotte Henson is leading the investigation. She said: “Officers were quickly on the scene to arrest one man on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.
“Following the report, officers chased the suspect from the scene towards Nottingham and detained him after a short foot chase.
“The seriousness of the victim’s injuries aren’t known yet. He remains at Queen’s Medical Centre for treatment.
“Officers remain at the scene whilst they carry out their investigation.
