Bank burglary suspects arrested after hiding on the roof

Notts Police arrested three suspected bank burglars hiding on a roof.

An intruder alarm was triggered at the Santander bank in Stockwell Gate in Mansfield at around 1.10am on 14 August and officers were quickly deployed to the scene.

Officers searched inside the bank but did not find any suspects, however, a force drone acting as an eye in the sky spotted three people appearing to hide on the bank’s roof.

Using a thermal camera, the drone team guided officers on the ground.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service were also in attendance to support police as they searched the roof of the building.

Two men, aged 25 and 40 and a woman, 31, were all arrested on suspicion of burglary in connection with the incident.

It is currently unclear if anything was stolen and detectives are now working hard to establish the circumstances.

Detective Sergeant Lauren Morgan, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Officers did a fantastic job to quickly arrive at the scene and make three arrests thanks to the support from the force’s drones team and Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service.

“This is a great example of how multiple departments from the force can work together to achieve good results and I would like to thank everyone who was involved in the arrests last night.

“Their quick actions may have prevented items being stolen from within the bank and we are pleased to have three people in custody as part of our enquiries into this incident.

“Burglary can have a devastating impact on businesses and we will always thoroughly investigate reports with the view to taking action against anyone who commits such an offence.

“We work closely with businesses in order to provide preventative advice on how best to protect their premises and I would recommend anyone who runs a business takes a look at our crime prevention advice on the force website.”

The arrests comes after the latest figures released show that burglaries in Nottinghamshire plummeted by 34 per cent in the year to April 2021.

Nottinghamshire Police has two specialist burglary teams, consisting of detectives who are dedicated to tackling this type of crime who have helped drive down the number of burglaries across the force area.
