Beach vibes as new experience opens at Victoria Centre

Shoppers in Nottingham have been busy creating seaside memories at the opening of Victoria Centre’s new indoor beach.

Ten-tonnes of sand have been shipped in to the centre’s upper mall to create the new free experience, which also features family-friendly games and pier-style retro arcade machines, including PacMan and Space Invaders.

The first families to venture onto the sand also enjoyed a host of postcard photo opportunities to remember their trip, including posing with a 3D donkey, a campervan and ice cream stand, as well as sinking into a giant deck chair.

Victoria Beach is open daily from 11am until 29 August. Pre-booking of free 45-minute sessions is advised via the Victoria Centre website, with the option of making a voluntary donation towards local foodbank charity, Hope Nottingham – Victoria Centre’s new chosen charity.

Commenting on the opening day of Victoria Beach, Nigel Wheatley, centre director at Victoria Centre, said:

“This year is the centre’s 50th birthday and it only seemed right to create an experience based on nostalgia and family.

“Nothing says summer like a trip to the seaside but we know that not every family is able to make it away this year, which is why we wanted to bring a free beach experience to the heart of the centre.

“We always design our experiences to add something special and memorable to a day out in the city. It’s been great to see so many people building sandcastles, taking a well-deserved break in the deck chairs, having fun together with the free retro games and showcasing their best moves on our interactive dance mat.”

The opening of Victoria Beach follows the success of previous seasonal experiences at Victoria Centre, including the Roller Room, the Glow Room and Confetti Room. Victoria Beach runs 5 August – 29 August and is open every day from 11am – 6pm and 11am – 5pm on Sundays.
