Beeston: Police officer makes special visit on Betty’s 103rd birthday

A friendly police officer stopped by at a Beeston care home to wish a happy 103rd birthday to a very special lady.

PCSO Chris Jones, a familiar figure with local residents of all ages, was invited to mark Betty’s special day at Queenwood Care Home in Cliffgrove Avenue last week.

A regular visitor to the local schools and care homes alike, he jumped at the invitation and even arrived with a personalised birthday card.

PCSO Jones, who recently visited another local centenarian to mark her 106th birthday, said:

“Betty is a lovely old lady, and it was a real honour to be invited to mark this special occasion with her, her friends and her family.

“Local policing is all about building strong relationships with all members of the community and that’s what this visit was all about.

“From primary school children to their great grandparents – it is important that we build those bridges with people and break down any barriers that may exist.

“By getting out there and being visible in this way, I know from experience that people are far more likely to come to us with relevant information when crimes occur and are more likely to seek our help when they need it.
