A shop thief in Beeston was tracked down and caught in the act by police officers.
Hensley Mbugua, aged 29, was wanted for a string of shop thefts when he was spotted in B&M Bargains by a town centre officer on Friday 21 August.
When arrested he was found to have a rucksack and holdall in his possession containing several items stolen from the store.
Mbugua, of Gardendale Avenue, Clifton, was charged with those offences and multiple other offences dating back to 20 July.
Appearing at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 22 August, he pleaded guilty to 29 offences and was given an eight-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months.
He was also ordered to pay compensation.
Sergeant Andrew Foulds said:
“Mbugua is a prolific offender who has been travelling to Beeston from outside the area to target our local retailers.
“Frankly, he’d been causing havoc, which is why we have been working hard over the last few weeks to track him down and had made a number of attempts to arrest him.
“Thanks to PC Ben Taylor, we spotted him in B&M as we were on our way to arrest him at another location.
“If he commits any offences anywhere over the next year, he will be going to prison. Either way, I hope he has got the message that he is not welcome in Beeston town centre and that we will be straight onto him if he comes here again to offend.”
