Bonfire Night: Police issue dispersal orders for the Clifton and St Ann’s areas tonight

Police will put in place temporary restrictions to tackle antisocial behaviour in two Nottingham neighbourhoods on Bonfire Night.

Officers in the City South policing area have issued dispersal orders to cover St Ann’s Well Road and parts of Clifton. Both orders take effect from 4 pm today (5 November) for a period of 24 hours and may be re-imposed at any time.

The St Ann’s order follows antisocial behaviour in the neighbourhood on Friday (1 November), when it was reported that groups of youths had been throwing fireworks.

Officers say the Clifton order, which will cover Southchurch Drive, Green Lane, Noble Road, Angel Green, and the tram route through Clifton, is a response to issues from last Bonfire Night. In 2023, fireworks were thrown at members of the public and passing cars.

Inspector Steve Dalby, Neighbourhood Policing Inspector for City South, said:

“The vast majority of young people have been out enjoying Halloween and the run-up to Bonfire Night in the community.

“Sadly, however, we did have to respond to several reports of isolated antisocial behaviour in St Ann’s and other areas.

“We also want to put measures in place in these areas of Clifton to prevent the incidents we saw last year, which were totally unacceptable.

“These dispersal orders will allow us to target groups who are perceived as causing or likely to cause nuisance.

“We have seen how successful these orders can be in preventing antisocial behaviour when they have been put in place to prevent car cruising in areas of the City South.

“Neighbourhood teams are working hard to ensure people are able to celebrate safely and in the right way.

“I hope members of the community welcome our targeted and robust response to the small number of troublemakers.”
