Bridgford Park play area in West Bridgford has reopened with new accessible and refurbished equipment for all children to enjoy, following investment from Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC).
Brand-new inclusive equipment has been installed at the play area, including an inclusive seesaw, a wheelchair-accessible roundabout, and a pod swing, which provides a safe platform for all children to have fun and play.
Further inclusive auditory sensory play items also include fun games such as eco chimes and an eco rainmaker.
It’s part of RBC’s £1 million investment in its parks and open spaces owned by the authority over five years, which will also see inclusive play equipment and other updates at Bridgfield Teen Park, West Park, and Abbey Park in West Bridgford in due course.
Last year, RBC delivered a series of improvements at its play areas, including the popular Rushcliffe Country Park, Boundary Road, and Greythorn Park in West Bridgford, as well as Adbolton Lane Playground in Lady Bay, with other parks across the borough often maintained by town and parish councils and other organisations.
The investment, supported by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, follows the results of a survey conducted by the Council, where residents and parkgoers shared their views on what they wanted to see in their local parks.
An RBC consultation on play parks that took place last year has also helped shape its new Play Strategy, outlining investment in community facilities.
Rushcliffe Borough Council’s Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Leisure & Wellbeing, ICT & Member Development, Cllr Jonathan Wheeler, said:
“It’s great to see Bridgford Park reopen ahead of half term so that local families and visitors can enjoy these brand-new play facilities.
“The park is the latest in a series of refurbishments and new inclusive facilities, and we will soon reach £1m in investment, with work starting on the Bridgfield Teen Park in West Bridgford in the coming weeks.
“The new accessible equipment, such as the wheelchair-friendly roundabouts and inclusive seesaws, is important to help ensure all children, regardless of their abilities, can enjoy our play parks.
“Our investment in community play facilities such as these demonstrates our commitment to enhancing the quality of life for our residents and visitors.
“By repairing our play areas and improving them for the long term, we are making them fit for the future for all families to enjoy.”
Works have been completed by playground equipment supplier Proludic Ltd, based in Bunny, which has designed the updated features.
